NDSU Parent Resource Centers
Research has shown the use of simple sign language with hearing children can help reduce tears and tantrums, make learning to talk easier, boost self-esteem and self-confidence, stimulate intellectual development, and strengthen the parent-child bond. Babies use sign as a bridge to speech, giving parents and caregivers an exciting sneak peek into the pre-verbal child’s mind. In this six-week class, a total of 37+ signs are taught through songs, books, and activities. Participants will leave with an understanding of the benefits of signing as well as ways to model and encourage signing. Class is structured for parents and/or caregivers to attend with infant/toddler. Recommended for children ages 8-18 months.
