NDSU Parent Resource Centers
Most experts agree that the first 4 or 5 years of a child's life are critical to his or her development. The attitudes upon which people construct their personalities develop from seeds that are sown and nourished during these early years. Caring for Children Ages 1-4 teaches parents and child care providers the fundamental attitudes and skills necessary for caregivers of young children. Topics include the importance of the caregiver's self-esteem; the value of the child and the job of parenting/caregiving; basic developmental stages from ages one to four; self-care; non-violent discipline skills and encouragement skills.
